Yuan incorporated the company as Saasbee in 2011, renamed it [Zoom](/products/zoom-meetings) in 2012, and launched the service in January 2013 after a Series A that included Qualcomm Ventures and [Yahoo](/companies/yahoo) founder [Jerry Yang](/people/jerry-yang). Sequoia's 2017 Series D valued Zoom at about US$1 billion. The April 2019 IPO priced at US$36 a share and rose more than 70% on the first day. Usage surged in the COVID-19 pandemic; the company later cut staff and repositioned toward an AI workplace platform, renaming itself Zoom Communications in 2024.
